10 Things You Might Not Know About the CORE

By Ally Onyett / Maddy Weedle, May 12

This week our summer intern started in the CORE's marketing department. On her first day she took a tour of the center and quickly made us realize that the things we sometimes take for granted, aren't as commonly known as we thought. Here's a round up of 10 things that surprised our intern during her walk through the CORE.

1. The Devonian Gardens

The Devonian Gardens is a 2.5 acre public park run by the City of Calgary. This fourth level “urban oasis” is complete with tropical plants, natural light and beautiful ponds. It also has a large children's play area, bistro tables and chairs for an urban picnic, and a boardroom and event space which is available to the public for booking.

2. Complimentary Valet Parking

The CORE makes it easy to park in Calgary's busy downtown with a FREE valet service seven days a week. Drop-off is located on 3rd street between 7th and 8th avenue. Parking is also free on evenings after 4pm, and on weekends.

3. Flowers at Guest Services

The beautiful bouquet at Guest Services changes every week. The flower arrangements are provided by Orange Tree Floral Designs located on the 3rd level of the CORE. They do everything from corporate bouquets to quick on-the-go gifts.

3. A Taste of Paris

You can get a sweet treat and a little taste of Paris at Monplaisir Delicacies on the 4th level. Try their light, and incredibly fresh French macarons or their Belgian chocolate and Nougat straight from France.

4. Exclusive Retailers

If you're hoping to do some luxury shopping at Holt Renfrew and Brooks Brothers then your destined for the CORE because that's the only place you'll find these high-end retailers in YYC.

6. Special Events

The CORE hosts a variety of special events on the glass bridges located on the +15 level. There has been everything from choirs and musical perfomances to mini-manicures and hair touch-ups. On Wednesday, May 13 Theatre Calgary will be performing musical numbers from their current production, Dear Johnny Deere: The Fred Eaglesmith Musical from 12 to 1pm.

7. Budget-Friendly Salon and Spa Services

Located on the 4th level is Eveline Charles Academy - a beauty and esthetics school with all the glitz, glamour and services of a real spa. And the best part is, your mani/pedi won't cost you an arm and leg.

8. The CORE on Social Media

The CORE is online in a big way. Watch Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest for daily fashion trends and advice, event information and contests. The CORE even has a monthly digital magazine called @theCORE.

9. Free WiFi

You can park yourself at the CORE for the day and stay connected on all of your devices on all levels. Browse the latest trends while you shop, or during your next coffee break.

10. There's so much more to see than the +15...

A lot of the time we're rushing through the CORE on the +15 level and don't get a chance to see the stores that are just one level up. Next time, try walking the +30 level where you'll spot trendy retailers like H&M, BCBG, Spring and so many more...
