6 Products to Help You Keep Your 2015 Skin Resolutions

By Allison Onyett, Jan 14

It’s no secret that keeping skin soft and moisturized in Calgary can be an uphill battle. But we’ve found six products that may help you combat YYC’s unfavourable climate and have your skin red-carpet ready no matter where you're headed this year.

1. GlamGlow ThirstyCleanse (available at Sephora on the +15 level, $43)

GlamGlow was invented in Hollywood for movie stars looking for quick fix skin solution when preparing for award shows and live appearances. Once the secret got out, the founders began to package and sell their little homemade skin miracles to the public.

Although washing your face with mud sounds like it would have unfavourable results, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find it works wonders and leaves skin with a fresh dewy complexion.

As you scrub, the mud turns into a moisture-rich foam that effectively rids your face of makeup, dirt and impurities while moisturizing your skin. It’s formulated with Brazilian yellow clay, pure green coconut water, olive milk, plumeria flower blossom extract, Indian gooseberry, and TEAOXI® olive leaf powder.  What you won’t find in this product is parabens, sulfates and phthalates.

Combine this product with the Thirsty Mud Hydrating Treatment Mask for the full effect.

*If you are acne prone, try the GlamGlow Daily Clearing Cleanser and mask.

2. Biosource Instant Hydration Toning Lotion (available at Shoppers Drug Mart on level 1, $20)

Toner is one of the most important steps in cleaning your skin, so don’t skip it. To avoid that tight, dried out feeling after use, try Biosource Lotion – Instant Hydration Toning. This product is ideal for normal to combination skin and is proven to reach dirt you didn’t even know you had, while leaving skin feeling refreshed and hydrated.

3. Stemcell Super-Food Facial Oil (available at Shoppers Drug Mart on level 1, $80)

We are in love with this next brand of skin care – Rodial. New to Calgary from the UK, this line is exclusively available at the CORE Shoppers Drug Mart location.

Their serum, Stemcell Super-Food Facial Oil, is the perfect way to combat dry skin and is filled with super-omega complexes to balance and moisturize. It’s also jam packed with Vitamins A, B5, C and E to provide your skin with a full daily dose of nutrients. You only need about the size of a pea per use, so this bottle should last you a very long time.

4. Lip Butter (available at The Body Shop on the +15 level, $6)

What we love about these little lip balms is that they work and they won’t break the bank; at their price point you could get one for your purse, desk, car and night stand, for smooth, kissable lips wherever, whenever.

Lip Butter is available tinted, non-tinted and in a plethora of flavours. We like this super fruity Dragon Fruit Lip Butter.

(For a full body solution, try their Body Butter.)

5. Nail Kit (available at Gratiae on level 3, $100)

A common problem for Calgarians is chipping and breaking nails due to our dry climate. Some people say they feel the difference in their nails as soon as they land at the Calgary International Airport.

For this, we turn to the Gratiae Nail Kita one-stop solution for nail issues. The kit includes cuticle oil to soften, strengthen and condition; nail file to smooth away rough edges; a buffing block for long lasting professional shine; and Hand & Nail Care Cream with organic sweet almond and jojoba oil.

6. Shea Butter Foot Cream (available at L'Occitane En Provence on the +15 level, $30)

Cracked dry heels are a common complaint for more than a few Calgarians. The trick is to moisturize those twinkle toes often. Try L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Foot Cream. It's non-greasy formula protects, soothes and hydrates your feet and you’ll find that it quickly absorbs into your skin and slowly repairs rough skin on feet and heels. The light lavender scent also gives a relaxing sensation, perfect for winding down after a long day on your feet.
