Fall Foods We're Craving

By Allison Onyett, Sep 26

With cooler temperatures blowing in and the leaves crunching beneath our feet, it’s clear that autumn is in the air. And like always, with the change in seasons there seems to be an undeniable change in menus and foods we’re craving.

Summer had us yearning for light salads, brightly coloured fruits, cold treats and chilling drinks, but now, as we head deaper into fall, we’re craving rich indulgent comfort foods that we steared clear of during bikini season. Lucky for us, the CORE has plenty to choose from and here’s just a few of our favourites.

1) While Double Zero is known for their mouth-watering pizza, we’re craving something new off of their upcoming fall menu—the cold smoked chicken thigh with roasted butternut squash, crisp sage and rosemary pickled blackberries. The chicken thighs are smoked with cherry wood for a minimum of one hour and are seared to order which gives the chicken its crisp brown skin. What we love about this dish is that everything about it makes us think of fall, from the colours on the plate to the mixture of sweet and savoury flavours in our mouth.

2) We think a picture says a thousand words when it comes to the New York Steak Sandwich. Grilled to your specifications, and served with crispy fries, this lunchtime indulgence at Hy’s Steakhouse is a popular favourite and must-try for red meat lovers.

3) As if the cheesy goodness of macaroni and cheese wasn’t rich enough, this dish is served with butter poached lobster, white truffle, wild mushrooms and smoked gouda. Metropolitan Grill certainly knows how to take a popular favourite to the next level. Trust us, once had, you'll definitely find yourself going back for more.

Stay tunned to the blog for more menu favourites when Cactus Club open's its doors later this fall on the main level of the CORE on the corner of 3rd Street & 8th Avenue SW.
