#FindChristmasDowntown Recap

By Kait Kucy, Nov 24

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite so beautiful as hundreds of people working together to decorate 150 Christmas trees that will be going to 150 families-in-need. It was the official kickoff to #FindChristmasDowntown last night and part of the fun was 150 Christmas trees being decorated by various corporations, organizations, small businesses and individuals.

Partnering with The Magic of Christmas charity, these fully decorated festive trees will be delivered to families all over the city just before Christmas. The task was to decorate them between 4-6pm just in time for the headlining performance by Canadian country star Dan Davidson. It was so wonderful to see everyone come together to decorate such beautiful trees - be sure to come down to check them all out!

I helped decorate the Calgary Blogger Tree; I loved seeing all of my favourite blogger friends and meeting a few new ones as well. Our tree’s theme was silver, red and white - it turned out beautiful. If you’re looking for a great charity opportunity for your company, friend group or organization, definitely consider joining in next year!

The entire CORE Shopping Centre was buzzing with activity, music and light for the entire evening! I loved seeing all of the families that came out to celebrate for the night, meet and greet with Santa Claus and check out the mainstage for the free Dan Davidson concert and tree lighting ceremony.

Performances by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the School of Alberta Ballet were absolutely awe-inspiring; we have so much talent in this city and so exciting to see a snippet of their holiday shows right here at The CORE.

Of course, the big draw was Dan Davidson who hit the stage at 6pm right under the big Christmas tree. Loud and rockin’, he kicked off the official holiday shopping season in the best way! With his full band behind, Davidson played lots of hits and welcomed the bustling crowd of holiday shoppers and

The holiday shopping season has only just begun so be sure to head down to The CORE over the next month to find everything on your Christmas wishlist, a photo with Santa and treat yourself to a warm holiday-inspired beverage. Santa Claus’ residency at The CORE has officially begun and will be available for photos every Thursday-Sunday until Christmas and the 150 trees will up for viewing until December 20th. Stay tuned for my blog post featuring my favourite trees!

Have a holly jolly Christmas shopping experience!
