Keeping Cozy with Kait Kucy!

By Kait Kucy, Oct 27

‘Tis the season for sitting by the fire and curling up with a hot tea, a cozy blanket and a good book. There is just something about the chilly days of November, with the holidays rapidly approaching, that makes staying home so much more appealing. Hygge, a Danish word that means the ritual of enjoying life’s simple pleasures - notably in the long winters. Achieving a sense of hygge in your home is easier than you think; it is all about gathering things around you that make you feel warm, inspired and content. Here are my favourite must-haves that will have those happy-go-lucky feelings continuing straight into spring 2018.

The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking(1) will be your go-to guide this winter with lots of great insight on how to achieve that feeling of contentment even when the weather outside isn’t quite as pleasant. Available at Indigo.

There is a reason that Aritzia’s Blanket Scarves (2)are such a hot seller, year after year, here in Calgary. The reason is that they will keep you absolutely cozy, both indoors and outdoors, while still looking chic and stylish. Coming in a variety of colours and patterns, you’ll be sure to find one that fits with your fall wardrobe perfectly. These gorgeous scarves also double up as a cozy throw so feel free to integrate them into your interior design. Available at Aritzia.

Speaking of cozy throws, Simons has an amazing selection of Netflix-binge-worthy blankets (3). With textiles ranging from woven to fur to fleece, the range of directions your hygge decor could go in are endless. Available at Simons.

Keep your coffee cart fully stocked with your favourite coffee beans, seasonal teas and delicious hot chocolate mixes like this Double Chocolate Hot Cocoa mix (4) from Starbucks. Hygge is also about inviting friends and family into your home to enjoy the season together so having a selection of warm drinks and tasty snacks is a right on trend. Available at Starbucks.

Set the mood with a selection of delicious smelling candles like the Vanilla Fog candle (5) from Rocky Mountain Soap Company. This pure soy candle will burn for 75+ hours and smells absolutely heavenly. Available at Rocky Mountain Soap Co.

One of the most anticipated books of the year, the second publication by the talented poet Rupi Kaur, The Sun and Her Flowers (6) is the perfect book to curl up with on a chilly winter day.

Available at Indigo.

Keep your feet nice and cozy in a pair of Savanna Spice Suede Booties (7). The faux fur lining and memory foam insole will ensure endless comfort as you read all of your favourite magazines by the fire. Available at Soft Moc.

Knit toques are the ideal hygge accessory - especially in Calgary. This soft merino wool pom-pom toque (8) is knit in a neutral ombre style ensuring that it will match everything in your hygge survival kit. Available at GAP.

It is time to stock up on plenty of cozy socks like these Striped Chalet Socks (9). A classic look pulled on to warm your feet by the fire (wood burning or electric for the condo-dwellers) these socks are great quality. Available at Suzy Shier.

If you do have to leave the house these gorgeous scalloped edge leather gloves (10) will keep your hands warm. Bonus - the finger tips have a special tech fabrication allowing you to use your smartphone without taking your gloves off. Available at Banana Republic.
