Eight Ways to Up Your Shoe Game This Fall

By Kait Kucy

Let your feet know that summer is over by taking them on a trip to The CORE for some new kicks. This season is all about the shoes. With luxurious textures like velvet, patent and suede and exquisite details like embroidery, sequins and jewels, your shoe game is going to be next level in F/W 2017. As part of my extensive (re: I loved every minute of it) research of the trends appearing in the stores right now, I’ve rounded up some of my favourites (eight to be exact) with examples from some of the amazing shoe boutiques located right in The CORE.

To celebrate fall fashion and our general love of shoes, The CORE is hosting their annual Shoes for a Year giveaway! For every $125 you spend at one of their shoe retailers, receive a ballot to be entered to win shoes for a year. The contest ends on September 30th so get down there and shop for your new fall shoe wardrobe!

Trend 1: Velvet, Suede + Fur

You can’t go wrong with adding a bit of luxe texture to your autumn wardrobe. On your feet, velvet, suede and fur are all making an appearance and in the best way possible. You can expect to see these textiles show up in many different colours and patterns – sometimes even in patchwork or mixing with furs and glitter.

Trend 2: Statement Ankle Boots

While ankle boots are a staple for any wardrobe, you can have a little fun with yours this fall by picking up a pair that makes a real statement. Think animal print, faux fur trim, zippers, embellishments, embroidery, Lucite heels and more. Go crazy with this trend; you only live once.

Trend 3: Black & Gold

There is nothing more stunning than a beautiful monochromatic look this fall. Black and gold shows up in everything from platform sneakers to statement booties that will elevate your wardrobe from day to night. A little bit of glitz never did anyone any harm.

Trend 4: Jewel Tone Heels

Trade in your summery pastels this fall for ruby, amethyst and emerald and get ready to make a bit of a statement. Go deep into this trend with rich, luxe jewel tones in all sorts of fabrics from velvet to satin.

Trend 5: Classic Mules

Perfect for those days before the flurries fly, mules are an ideal shoe to slide on with everything from pants to dresses. You can opt for a simple, detail-free slide or get a bit more elaborate with embroidery, bows, faux fur or metal and rhinestone detailing.

Trend 6: Punchy Sneaker

Sneakers just keep getting better and better. Whatever your personal style is there is a sneaker out there for you – go for the classic Stan Smith or Converse Sneakers or shake things up with millennial pink suede. Have fun with this trend – it is one you can easily get carried away with and end up with a closet full of awesome kicks.

Trend 7: Patent Leather

The shine factor is real in this season’s slickest craze. Glossy patent leather shoes have made a comeback, adding a bit of plastic-fantastic to your outfit. Keep the shoes as your statement with a monochromatic or denim outfit. Pair the patent with other interesting textiles like velvet or faux fur in your handbag or scarf.

Trend 8: Bring on the Burgundy

In terms of a colour trend, it is all about that luscious and deep burgundy. The hottest way to wear this wine-hued look is to embrace it as boldly as possible. I love the luxe vibe of the over-the-knee boots and booties but am also obsessing over the jewel-toned spin on the punk rock staple Doc Marten lace-up.
