Three Date Night Ideas for Modern Lovers

By Kait Kucy

Welcome to February; the month of love that is filled with all things red, pink and chocolate-filled. If you are looking for date night ideas for the week of Valentine’s Day look no further than our quick and easy guide below to spoil your true love.

New Romance

Thinking about taking things to the next level with that Tinder match you can’t get off of your mind? Or maybe you’ve been dating someone for a while but this is your first Valentine’s Day together and you want to make it special? Pizza is always the answer. Double Zero Pizza has a great casual date atmosphere and their menu is full of delicious things like caprese salad and craft beer to share and try out.

After carb-loading, lace up your skates over at Canada Olympic Plaza for a spin around the rink. Ice skating is both romantic, as well as a great ice-breaker (no pun intended)

Classic Date Night

You absolutely cannot go wrong with the classic date night concept, dinner and a movie especially when the dinner is somewhere lively, fun and hip and the movie is at your local independent theatre.

Hit up the Cactus Club on Stephen Avenue and find yourself enjoying their signature dishes like the amazing butternut squash and mascarpone ravioli with sautéed jumbo prawns or the Tuna Sushi Cone. I highly recommend you order up their new feature cocktail, the Frozen Blood Orange Margarita; blood orange, lime, tequila and Triple Sec – you really can’t go wrong with this tasty treat.

Afterwards, wander down the road to The Globe Cinema (617 8th Ave SW) to catch the latest independent film feature that has come to Calgary. They have some of the best movie theatre popcorn in the city and their seats are super comfy. Arrive ready to see something thought-provoking and interesting.

The Ultimate Romance

If you are really looking to impress or plan an incredibly special evening out with your loved one, I highly recommend booking a reservation at Hy’s Steakhouse right here at The CORE. A Canadian staple since 1955, Hy’s is the perfect spot to plan an intimate dinner out with your beau – complete with expertly prepared Canadian Prime steaks. They have beautiful cocktails and an incredible wine list that will be sure to please any oenophile that you bring with you.

Make your date night a staycation by booking a room at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel, only a few short blocks away. The stunning historic hotel is a gorgeous place to cap off a romantic evening and spend the night at a beautiful home away from home.
