Q & A with Anders Svensson, Founder of Treasure League

By Caroline Fyvie, Jun 13

Anders Svensson,
Founder of Treasure League

Get your selfie sticks ready, The CORE is excited to collaborate with the Treasure League and Downtown Calgary for an exciting free Downtown Selfie Scavenger Hunt around the CORE and downtown Calgary from 12pm – 5 pm on June 18-19, 2016. The grand prize of the event is a $500 gift card to the CORE. We had an opportunity to interview Anders Svensson, founder of the Treasure League to talk about what participants can expect for the event, and how the treasure league began.

CORE Shopping: What excites you about collaborating with the CORE for the downtown Selfie Scavenger Hunt?

Anders Svensson: “My hope for Treasure League is that it would make Calgary even more interesting — that’s what Downtown Calgary and the CORE have been doing for years! The scavenger hunt gives people a new way to enjoy downtown and I think the $500 shopping spree is a great prize.”

CS: What is different about this treasure hunt, and do you have any tips for participants joining in on the hunt?

AS: “Instead of receiving clues every day, all month, you’ll be trying to figure out puzzles on a game sheet handed to you when you arrive. I’d recommend wearing some comfortable shoes and bringing friends and family to join in the fun. Other than that, enjoy the hunt and have fun exploring!”

CS: What inspired you to start Treasure League?

AS: “I love adventure, mystery, and puzzles — and I’ve always been interested in making games. One day I thought, ‘What if treasure hunting was a competitive sport?’ And that’s how the League was born.”

CS: What is your favourite part about the Treasure League?

AS: “I love knowing that people are spending some of their free time trying to find a hidden treasure chest. It’s absurd and wonderful.”

CS: What has surprised you about creating the Treasure League?

AS: “The response has been overwhelmingly positive. We’d had hundreds of people playing, every month. That’s a lot of treasure hunting talent that was going completely unused!”

CS: How can Calgarians get involved in the Treasure League?

AS: “Visit treasureleague.com and think about joining us for one of the monthly treasure hunts. And be sure to sign up for the mailing list to hear about other related events we’re involved with.”

Register for the Downtown Selfie Scavenger Hunt at treasureleague.com to have some treasure-hunting fun with your friends and a chance to win a $500 CORE gift card!
