Fall 2017 Must Have Trends

Now that Calgary has survived the first snow fall of the season, it’s safe to say we can finally swap out those summer wardrobes. For true fashionistas, this is music to our ears. Fall fashion will always hold a special place in our hearts, from the cozy layers, warm textures and rich colours, there isn’t much to not love. The F/W runways had some fairly dominant trends that had us eager to hit the shops! We’ve picked our top five trends, and how you can incorporate them into your work wardrobe.

Boss Red

Red was deemed the colour of the season, which makes perfect sense considering it demands attention. This hue is one that every woman should own and not shy away from.  This symbolic colour is feminine, strong and regal. Need we say more? Although most of us won’t be draped in it head to toe, here are a few pieces that act as accents and statements.

Aritzia- Babaton Miguel Dress $88

H&M Loose-knit Sweater $29.99

Town Shoes- Kate Spade Gena $348

PLAID

It should come as no surprise that the 90’s trend has completely revamped our wardrobes the past few seasons. Some may beg to differ, but grunge was one of the most influential trends to date. Tartan prints were the cherry on top of the punk movement. We were delighted to see plaid was back and in a much more refined way. Think more 70’s vintage inspired. From a basic print coat to pants, this trend is one we can't wait to add this year!

Club Monaco- Starella Coat $469

Simons- Contemporaine Plaid Skirt $69

Judith and Charles- Gray Dress $595

VELVET CRUSH

This is one trend we can’t seem to shake. The natural richness of the textured fabric is one that can’t be replaced. You would be hard pressed to find a designer that didn’t use the luxe fabric for the season. If there is any trend that is an absolute must, this would be it. It's a simple add to any wardrobe, from cushy blazers to crush velvet boots, there's no excuse to not jump on this band wagon.

Banana Republic- Devon Velvet Legging $110

Sirens- Crushed Velvet Slip Dress $21.99

Aldo- Stefi-N $85

POWER SUITS

Walking from Spring 2017 into Fall, it’s the year of the pant suit. From bold patterns, disheveled fits and slim cuts, these suits take you from office to night out. This easy mix and match trend provides options of layering velvet crushed tops, tartan slacks and red oversized jackets. From red carpet award shows to street style, celebrities have completely owned this look.

Holt Renfrew- The Row

Le Chateau- Check Print Blazer $179.95

Aritzia- Babaton Barnaby Jacket $265

SHEAR STYLE

Shearlings have always been a closet staple. They replace those worn-in leather jackets from the warmer season, for a refreshed and stylish approach for fall. Shearlings seemed to be the coat of choice, with a luxe 90’s vibe. From denim, corduroy and lacquered fabrics, shearlings lined this season’s most practical outwear.

Gap- Icon Sherpa-Collar Jacket $80

Banana Republic- Heritage Bomber $550

Club Monaco- Kay Shearling Coat $2,195
