SIMONS NOW OPEN!

The much-anticipated fashion house from Montreal has finally opened its doors in downtown Calgary!

By Kait Kucy

The biggest news in downtown Calgary right now is that Simons has officially open their doors as of today, Thursday March 16. Fashion lovers can finally shop five floors of amazing fashion and home decor in the historic Lancaster Building on Stephen Avenue. The store is filled with 95,000 square feet of incredible brands (many of them completely new to Calgary – including Simons’ in-house brands), beautiful architectural details, a café and some stunning original artwork. They’ve really thought carefully about the shopping experience and how to make it more enjoyable for everyone shopping in their store. There is a great mix of well-priced in-house Simons brands and streetwear brands as well as the Edito departments for both men and women that highlight some truly fashion-forward designer brands from around the world.

Here are some of my highlights from touring the store earlier this week!

Maison

There are very few places in downtown Calgary where you can find amazing home décor so I was super excited to see that they would be bringing in the Simons Maison collection. Gorgeous bed linens, throw pillows and blankets in all sorts of trendy patterns and colours – plus endless home accessories that you’ll just want to scoop up for yourself. I love that they treat the home décor just as they do all of the fashion throughout; unique, bold pieces that will be sure to make a statement in any space.

McKinley Burkart Architecture

Calgary-based architecture and interior design firm, McKinley Burkart worked with Simons to transform the entire historic Lancaster Building into a true work of art. The architecture and design of the space is truly something to be experienced. Each floor is completely different than the last and there are hidden details throughout the entire store that will totally bring delight to anyone who loves good design as much as I do!

Maya Gohill Mural

I love that Simons makes a point of bringing in local artists to create original artwork for each of their stores. The extremely talented Maya Gohill was commissioned to create an eye-popping three-story mural in the new Calgary Simons and it is absolutely incredibly to see in person.

Eve Café

Every department store worth it’s salt has a little café to relax in mid-shop or to catch up with friends or family. Eve Café is the perfect little space to grab a bite to eat without having to go to a full scale restaurant or the big food court in the mall.

Beyond all of that, there is so much to explore at Simons – you’ll continually find new and exciting brands and designers arriving in store, amazing events, art installations and community involvement. It is definitely more than just a department store.

Make sure you sign up for The Simons, their in-house Rewards Program, when you pop into the shop for the first time. You’ll be sure to be on the list for any important updates, new releases and more.
