The Best Boots for a Calgary Winter

By Kait Kucy, Sep 21

Calgary winters are known for their drastic changes in temperatures and weather conditions ranging from frigid cold and snowy to near-balmy temperatures and little-to-no precipitation. In order to be fashionable and ready for whatever the conditions may be it is necessary to have boots ready and waiting for any situation. I’ve identified the top four boot needs for downtown women and found great options in each category!

Best Boots for the Office

These are all great options for when you want a nice boot that you can wear all day in the office but still make a fashionable statement. A lower heel will keep your feet comfortable throughout the day while interesting textiles, patterns and details like ribbons and buckles will keep things looking cute.

  1. Dev Grey Leather Boot, Naturalizer
  2. Capucine Boots, Simons
  3. Kate Spade Barrow Boot, Town Shoes
  4. Abert Grey Boot, Call It Spring

Slushy Chinook Days

You’ve got to love those warm Chinook winds when they come rolling into town. Although warmer weather is always welcome to Calgarians, the slushy, melty roads and sidewalks present a problem especially for keeping your fancy footwear in good condition. Lucky for all of us, cute rubber boots are actually a thing and there are plenty of options out there to match your personal style. Whether you love the classic knee-high Hunter boot or want to opt for something in a cute colour, you’ll have a variety of stylish options to choose from.

  1. Bogs Classic High Handles Rain Boot, SoftMoc
  2. Hunter Original Wedge Boot, Town Shoes
  3. Lemon Jelly Haley Boot, Browns Shoes
  4. Breeda Boots, Geox

Extreme Cold + Snow

Chances are there will be a handful of days this year where you’ll have to bring in the big guns – i.e. the -30 degrees Celsius, fully-lined, wind and snow proof boots that will keep your feet feeling toasty throughout your entire commute. While actual winter boots are never that cute, for the most part they are pretty non-offensive these days – and even somewhat streamlined so you won’t feel like you’ve just trekked through the Arctic as you trudge into Starbucks.

  1. Sorel Whitney checked boot, Simons
  2. UGG Adirondack Boot 2, Browns Shoes
  3. Jenna Black Suede Boot, Naturalizer
  4. Sevorewien Boot, Aldo Shoes

From Day to Night

The best kind of boots are the ones that can elevate your workwear to the next level – for a night on the town. Adding a bit of glitz, glamour, unique detailing and higher heels instantly update your outfit as you head out for dinner with girlfriends or for date night. Look for fabrics that are durable or can be easily cleaned but still have a strong element of style that assist you in dressing up any look.

  1. Strategia Patterned Black Boot, Browns
  2. Natural Soul Tobi Booties, Naturalizer
  3. Sweeorn Booties, Nine West
  4. Steve Madden Thigh High Boots, Simons
