The Value of Upcycling

By The CORE, Jan 19

What is upcycling? By definition, it is the reusing of an old item into something of higher quality. As environmental protection has come to the forefront of many minds lately, we wanted to showcase how some local companies are taking this simple concept of upcycling and transforming products into something unique.

Adrianmartinus was started by a pair of local brothers who embody the ideal of modern sustainability. Using reclaimed wood for their designs, we were amazed by the level of artistry in their products. Check out some of their work on the second level by Town Shoes where they have four tables on display, each created from reclaimed hardwood flooring. Visit their website to discover more of their products, including creative designs for home furniture using every part of old skateboards including the grip tape and the sawdust remains.

Adrianmartinus is joined on the second level by Town Shoes by a second furniture and home décor display from Gaslamp Décor, based in Sherwood Park, Alberta. The owners of Gaslamp Décor are passionate about the environment where reclaimed wood has become a focal point for the company. With a passion for showcasing natural beauty, the company utilizes stock that would otherwise be discarded to produce tables, desks, patio furniture, and home décor pieces.
